Community members who come to us from around the world share in common certain extraordinary qualities: courage, resilience, adaptability, true grit. Yet they must negotiate a number of cultural, linguistic and legal challenges successfully in order to settle in well. We will look at some of the frameworks in which these particular community members must operate, and how we can support their transition from newcomer to student, colleague, and next door neighbor, and prosper as a community.

The aim of the session is to introduce some of the cultural, linguistic, and legal structures that we must be aware of as we seek to connect new community members to resources.

At the end of this session, participants will leave with a basic understanding of some of the parameters that determine how to connect international newcomers with the right kind of resources, as well as contact information for support services.
