A Community-Engaged Educational Ecosystem brings students and teachers from K-12 and higher education together with stakeholders from city government, industry, and other community organizations to work on projects that benefit the community while developing key skills in the students.

This presentation will discuss two ongoing projects in partnership with the Center for Civic Innovation at Notre Dame: the Elkhart Catalyst, in which team of high school and college students are working on housing and other issues, and the STEM+Music program where students at Pierre Moran Middle School and Roosevelt STEAM academy are building instruments and composing music for a community performance with Grammy-winning ensemble Third Coast Percussion.

The goal of this session is to introduce a model for mutually-beneficial partnerships between K-12, higher education, and community stakeholders and to provide examples.

Participants will learn about ongoing programs and provide input on how they may be extended or enhanced.
